This is the bit where I have to introduce myself to you, the reader. So, hello- I’m Adam, and welcome to Adam’s Steering Column. For some reason, I must assume that the world needs more of my opinions because this is going to be a weekly column. That means my thoughts about the motoring world- weekly. I think that’s about enough for the moment anyway.
But why am I doing it? What are my credentials or qualifications for pontificating? Well, I did a degree in journalism. I got a 2:1 I’ll have you know- so that’s the qualifications bit covered. Now for the automotive section of an automotive column. I have been obsessed with cars, and vehicles in general for as long as I can remember.
Let me open the car door into the cabin-space of my childhood for a moment- so you can see the sort of thing I’m referring to.
My Dad spent an entire camping holiday walking me to a nearby field and explaining how the engine of a tractor worked- I was three years old. On walks to the park, I spent the majority of the time naming the cars that went past my pushchair to the confusion of my mom’s friends. And for Christmas, all I asked for was a red lorry. I was 21 years old. I wasn’t. I was four. But you get the idea.
What I’m trying to get across, if you hadn’t already noticed, is that I’m not just interested in the topic- I live it most of the time. Apart from at parties, obviously, no one wants motoring chat at a party. So, the column is born.
What I shall be doing in this column (I hope you appreciate the name by the way) is combining my skills and interests into letters, words, and sentences for you to enjoy.
Seriously though, Adam’s Steering Column… Half the work is done already.
