There are some vehicles we associate with big-screen. James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5; James Bond’s Aston Martin DBS; James Bond’s Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante; James Bond’s Aston Martin V12 Vantage; and the Batmobile. But the new Spider-man film, No Way Home, features two new cars. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Hyundai Tucson. I bet you were not expecting that.
This comes from a partnership between Hyundai and Sony Entertainment for the coming year, so buckle-up- there will be more Hyundai stars to come.
That is all well and good- it would be nice to see your car in a film but what are the cars actually like?
What About the IONIQ 5?
The IONIQ 5 is a fully electric CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) that offers 298 miles of range, 5.2 seconds 0-60 time and ultra-fast 10-80% charge in 18 minutes. This is all packaged in a spaceship, videogame, angular machine that is humming with technology. Any battery worries will be quashed too with Hyundai’s 8-year battery warranty and a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.
There are some clever things on offer with the IONIQ 5: with 12.3” screens for cluster display and infotainment; fully adjustable comfort seats; visibility cameras when indicating; and you can charge or run electrical appliances from the car.
Not to mention the automatic breaking setting for power re-generation when you take your foot off the accelerator.
What About the Tucson?
The Tucson proved a popular vehicle for Hyundai. There is now an all new one though. The Tucson is a more traditional SUV that comes in petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. It shares some of the technology with the IONIQ 5, like the visibility cameras when indicating (or Blind spot View Monitor as Hyundai are calling it.
It also features enhanced safety with seven airbags, to keep you and your family safe as well as: Highway Drive Assist; Forward Collision-avoidance Assist; and Remote Smart Park Assist. This means the Tucson will actively keep you out of trouble when you are on the road.
The Tucson PHEV can be driven on electric power alone to save fuel and reduces the CO2 emissions to 31g/km.
Hyundai have offered some competitive vehicles lately and although they may once have been disregarded for Japanese or European options- they are now worthy contenders. There is nothing on the road that currently resembles the IONIQ 5- it is striking. The Tucson offers dependability, reliability and affordability.
